Winemaker's notes
The Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir parcels that created this Rosé were individually harvested and field destemmed. The Pinot Noir had extended skin contact in the press to achieve the desired colour and flavor balance, while the Pinot Gris parcels were gentle pressed on arrival. The juice was then cold settled for 48 hours then racked prior to a long cool fermentation in stainless steel tanks to capture bright, fresh fruit characters. Each parcel was fermented separately with a range of yeasts to build complexity and structure. Following fermentation the wine was blended, stabilised and filtered prior to bottling.
Vineyard
Seaview
Our Seaview Vineyard in the Awatere Valley is exposed to some of the toughest growing conditions in Marlborough; high sunshine and wind, cool nights and low rainfall which produces a smaller, thicker skinned berry with intense fruit flavours. This wine is a blend of two different blocks on the property – one warmer, sheltered inland block and a coastal block. The wine brings together in harmony the diverse spectrums of the blocks; the warmer site contributing he expressive aromatics and the cooler site giving the mineral backbone and length.
Leave the land better than we found it
Sustainability
At Yealands, we aim to leave the land better than we found it. We achieve this through a wide range of initiatives and on-going projects including developing wetlands, making our own special compost and using natural pest control measures in our vineyard.
