Winemaker's notes

Oaky & Luscious

Fruit in the riper spectrum was carefully selected for this wine, of which a small parcel was fermented in predominantly older French oak puncheons.

G2 Block

Seaview Vineyard

North facing, sheltered coastal block; 80 metres above sea level. Soil profile is wind-blown loess with high mineral content.

It's important that the fruit and acidity is still present and the wine is recognisably a Sauvignon Blanc! It's really fun to make as there are a lot of inputs as a winemaker that you can contribute.

Winemaker's Craft

The perfect balance

The focus with this wine is to make a Sauvignon Blanc that is rich, savoury, textured and with layers of complexity bought in by the oak – but the oak must be subtle.

Tasting Notes

Rich & Textured

Aromas of dried thyme and white flowers dominate the nose. The palate is rich and textured with a full spectrum of ripe herbal and savoury notes and fresh acidity that all come together in perfect harmony.

FOOD PAIRINGS

Excellent with grilled chicken or fish, prawns or mussels.

Fantastic with most types of seafood and poultry.

WineNZ Magazine

For Ant, this wine had full yellow fruit flavours, nectarine, some flinty complexity, melon, cream and pineapple on the palate. It was a nice, richer style. Barry, meanwhile, was getting oak sitting well with tropical ripe peach.A quite heavy aroma was present for Simon, with good colour and a solid mid-palate weight. A good wine.

The nose is all nettles with a certain pastille jubey like sweetness. Lovely palate, quite fresh and loaded with pungent varietal fruit flavours the linger long after the wine has gone.

The stylish, tightly structured 2013 vintage was hand-picked and partly barrel-fermented. It has concentrated tropical-fruit flavours to the fore, with a herbal undercurrent, a subtle seasoning of French oak, and a long, dry (1.5 grams/litre of residual sugar) finish. Best drinking mid-2015+

The 2014 Estate Winemakers Reserve Sauvignon Blanc is intensely scented of fresh lemons, grapefruit and green apples with hints of wild thyme and chalk dust. Medium-bodied, it fills the palate with electrically charged citrus and vegetal flavours, finishing with a burst of freshness. Benchmark stuff.
