Leaf Plucking

This week at the winery our vineyard team pulled our leaf-plucker out of hibernation! This amazing piece of equipment will go along each vine row and pluck the leaves off of the fruiting wire. The leaf-plucker is so exact that it only takes the leaves off and avoids the clusters of grapes. Reducing the amount of leaves around the fruiting wire has some great benefits for the developing grapes. This exposes the clusters of grapes to better air flow which reduces disease pressure. It also allows more sunlight to reach the clusters which helps ripen the grapes and changes the flavour profile.
