Since 1996, their focus has not only been to grow their own business, but also to achieve substantial gains through investments in successful New Zealand companies. These have included other networks and an electricity contracting business, as well as acquiring 80% of Yealands Wine Group in July 2015, and subsequently purchasing the balance in July 2018, as an investment for the people of Marlborough.
The Marlborough Lines network itself is wide and diverse covering urban areas as well as isolated, rural communities, including the Marlborough Sounds, Molesworth Station (New Zealand’s largest farm at the top of the Awatere Valley) and the rugged southern Marlborough coastline. Shares are held by the Marlborough Electric Power Trust for the collective benefit of Marlborough electricity consumers.
