Gareth has been working with Peter Yealands since 2005. Born and bred in Marlborough he's seen many local vineyards, but none quite so spectacular as Seaview, the home of Yealands Estate. The constant challenge of growing grapes in the Seaview area of the Awatere Valley, the climate, the extreme winds from all directions, this is what drives Gareth’s passion.
Of the time he’s worked for Yealands, he can honestly say there’s never been a time he hasn’t wanted to come into work. Gareth is responsible for all aspects of vineyard management, from soil management, planting and pruning to the all-important grape harvest. At the peak of the pruning season, he manages up to 260 contract staff. If he had to choose a passion outside of work, there’d be no surprise to hear it involves anything outdoors, from boating, fishing, hunting and motor-cross to running and biking. And, of course, spending time with his family.
